Few years ago, I read an article about how the Saudis funded madrasah all over the world to increase the influence of the Saudis in the world. Billions of dollars were spent annually. The result is the increase of radicalism among many madrasahs that received funding from the Saudis. Not only that, they also begin to adopt middle east culture, like the way they dress and the mosque architecture style. They also grow beard. In countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, the muslims there actually begin to fight back against arabization of their culture. When I heard China cracking down on the Mosque architecture style, I am actually glad that China is hitting one of the nails accurately. China need to crack down on foreign funding on Islamic institutions in China. Today, Saudi isn't the only one doing that. Turkey, Qatar and UAE are also pretty aggressive in emulating the Saudis. The US is leaving the middle east, there is a vacuum of power in middle east, and every ambitious actors are trying to fill in the shoes, and they are looking for supporters in Islamic world.
