as training ships for a long time, as well as being transferred to foreign navies (already happened in the case of Bangladesh). The upgraded EW suite is identical to that equipping newer 054A including the Pakistani export frigates.

The original two 054 are being upgraded with HQ-10.

It doesn't make sense for 054 variants to completely replace the 056 family. There will always be a mission for a green-water platform with simplified maintenance compared to 054, and there is always the export market, which 056 has already made reasonable inroads. More likely 056 will just be replaced (in smaller numbers) by upgraded versions of itself.

I would personally like to see a mine warfare support frigate that can carry multiple small minehunting droness and 1-2 helicopters equipped with minesweeping sleds. Such a ship could be based on the 054 hull and would not need more than self-defence weapons and mission-specific electronics.
