The original plan was second stage recovery, but it was given up, a simple de-orbit is done instead. And the F9 second stage is made from heat resistant composite, they're gauranteed to survive re-entry and hit the ground intact. Unlike CZ-5 core stage made from Aluminium that'd burn up upon re-entry.
