And yes, the US gov won't spread "false information", but it won't spread the truth either. Don't be naive, the US gov has "intervened" subtly or not to steer the media if it is about foreign news. especially if it is about countries that are not on good term with the US. Their so called "independent" media will mostly parrot whatever their gov feed them. Of course there are exceptions like all things, but in general that is what happened. China and Russia are in the middle of propaganda war with the west/US. The US media have incentive to back their gov to smear China if they have to since they were blocked from doing business in China.
