The West can "deal with Russia" now simply by NOT pushing Russia's back against the wall.

Russia always wants to be accepted as a proper member of the European community since the days of the Tsars. I remember that, when Putin first became president, he too was eager to join the West. More than 2 decades of spurning by the West has pushed it into the arms of China-- a situation Russia did not wish for.

I am sure that the US wants to keep China down indefinitely. Will it be able to do so? Who knows? But every country rises and falls. Chinese historical experience is that a well governed dynasty lasts about 300 years.
