From there, it is a small step to wearable tech such as wrist-watches, and then to cyborg implants. Technology is used by tool-using animals such as birds or otters using rocks to break open shells for food, they use these items as extensions of their bodies; then comes the modification of found items to create tools such as sticks used by chimps to harvest insects. At what point do you say a tool - an extension of the body - becomes a modification of the body?
