not clothing. Some species, like the sponges&anemones, always seek habitats but might or might not be beneficial to the host;  rodents are a good example(2 yrs ago, I even found a 4" centipede in the kitchen..). Foot Fungus not welcome by the human hosts

It take quite a number of evolutionary steps for an animal to be self-motivated to improve its habitat.

My sibblings once kept a cat that literally jump to the toilet seat to crap and it would howl loudly if someone watching; that's about the only time I can relate a non human mammal trying to follow later human civilisational traits.... Go ask comrade Kim
