The old BS story that the well off (or wealthy) can get out of the draft.

Fallows in his book "National Defense" (ca 1983) writes in the early pages specifically about the Media's misconception and misrepresentation of the Draft and the Vietnam War. He writes of the Government report listing authentic stats. with the primary source in the book.
He points out that most of the Vietnam military was equally represented in all its Socio-Economic proportions. He further proves it with the point that the supposed "Poor and Under-educated" normally were disqualified from the military since they failed the Educational or Psychiatric testing. In other words they were too crazy or too dumb to be issued a weapon.

The press can easily twist the statistics by assuming that all minorities are poor. (Whites enlisting must be the Poor White Trash variety). It would shame them to admit that minorities are capable of becoming middle class. They fail to recognize is that many of the minority personnel are military brats or have a family history of serving in the military.
