In China case, I'm always wary of the sentence "We don't need them anymore". They sound a lot like what the Qing dynasty and Ming dynasty thought. That thinking did a lot of damage to China. It is good to pursue independent, so that China doesn't have to worry about blockade. I just hope that China never turn into isolationist policy like in the past.
