The only team sport that was traditionally popular in China was polo. This game was only for those who could afford the equipment/trained ponies/polo fied access, wasn't invented in China, and died out completely during the Ming Dynasty. Chinese culture is too individual-focused to excel at team sports (which is not good from a military point of view). In that regard there is no difference between the mainland, HK, TW, or overseas Chinese-descendents.
