If US generals were shown to be involved in deliberate attacks on Iranian embassies which are theoretically neutral grounds, I have no doubt Iran would plot to assassinate such a general if they could get their hands on him. Murdering civilians as deliberate targets (as opposed to collateral damage from general warfare) is generally considered in international circles as verboten.
