plenty of open source that can replace the american products, China could be the new giant of open source if it adopt open source wholeheartedly. It is not that the officials appeared unsure, they ARE UNSURE about the way forward.

On one hand, the Chinese tech industry still need the latest chips that China can't produce if they want to compete with foreign companies in consumer goods. On the other hand, nobody know how long China can make the breakthrough.

Maybe Chinese tech industry would have to take a few step backs from the competition for now, and be content with lower chip performance while waiting for the breakthrough. Chinese smartphone companies may not be able to produce the latest most advanced smartphone anymore until the Chinese semiconductor make breakthrough, and has to be content with producing cheaper phones like before.

I used to worry about this, but now with tech war launched by the yanks, I feel that it is okay for China to not be able to import the latest chips or any tech from yankees, in return for the Chinese companies support on domestic semiconductor and tech companies.

I think China need to look at their EV development playbook again. That is one guidance on how to move forward.
