China should remain neutral between Russia and Ukraine, both for the sake of grain/fuel/fertiliser and because Ukraine provided technical support in the recent past. However, China absolutely needs Russia to remain hostile to the West, not only as a distraction but also to keep from being completely surrounded by unfriendly powers like in the 1960s. The West wants regime change in Russia (and China) but obviously Beijing can't allowed that to happen.
