Vijay Prashad or Daniel Dumbrill.  India is very diverse and complex.   The Hindus or to be precise, the nationalist Hindus AKA BJPs are the problems.  Right around the mid 90s, when China and India are still at parity,  the BJP led coalition won the election, started to target China and saying that India will win the economic competition and so on.  Remember George Fernandes?  I remember.  I was pissed when he came out of nowhere started verbally attack the Chinese.  The china hate and all that delusionary BS started around that time.
