those arms sales under TW relation act had been happening since the Three communiques were signed. Pelosi's visit OTOH represent an escalation of US official support for the TI. Chinese response is undoubtedly underwhelmed and this will definitely have consequences of emboldening the TI and their foreign supporters. But allowing it to happen without even warning of retaliation will be worse. China's response may not be in intercepting Pelosi's plane considering they deliberately chose near midnight approach to avoid harassment, shooting down the plane is frankly also not an option to begin with, but the response is not over yet.
