US didn't know what happened to the ship when Ukraine claimed it has sunk Moskva, but when Ukraine made the claim, Moskva hadn't sunk yet, there was just a major explosion. When Russia denied report that it has sunk at that time, what they said is true. This explosion was what the US able to confirm. When Moskva was moving, US wasn't sure if it's moving under its own power or being towed. Russian source confirmed it was being towed. Days later then Moskva tipped over and sunk before reaching port.It's like the Snake island when Kiev claimed there're 13 soldiers on the island fighting Russian to death, but Russia said there're 82 Ukraine soldiers who surrendered voluntarily. Days later Kiev admitted the soldiers were still alive.
There're other Russian ships in the vicinity, such as the frigate that carried out Kalibr missiles attack at Ukraine targets. Those should be included into Ukraine target list if they're capable of sinking Moskva.
