The problem is the Chinese tech giants are too timid. They probably also have their hands tied by the strict Chinese censorship. Years ago before Whatsapp become dominant in Asia today, WeChat should have expand aggressively. Instead WeChat made it even more difficult for foreign markets to access it. Today WA is too dominant, while WeChat is like a frog in the well. Those giants are too comfortable in their wells. I applauded Bytedance founder for great vision, I just hope there are many others follow suit.
