The US has been disrespecting Russia for the better part of 3 decades since the fall of the Soviet Union with its color revolutions in Ukraine (Orange Revolution, Maidan Revolution) and less-than-outright-warfare machinations with the other ex-Soviet republics. Putin's 2022 invasion of Ukraine was simply Putin finally deciding to give US the middle finger and Ukraine the jackboot.
