Almost all East Asian populations in the US live in urban areas, many of these are politically liberal ones where it is very difficult to get a permit to carry a concealed firearm. The ones living in (for example) Texas or other gun-friendly areas don't seem to face as much racism and certainly not as much racist violence. Remember that these racist attacks are largely restricted to San Francisco/Oakland (California has a history of racism against Chinese that isn't present in southern states) and the New York City area, really only two metropolises, and they are mostly being committed by blacks who are often homeless.

It's very common for suburban ABCs and Chinese-Americans to own firearms but they are not the ones being targeted, it's older immigrants living in a few big cities. Immigrants often fear firearms and look down on violent self-defence, making them easier targets. It doesn't help that Chinese people for some reason don't like look to the sides when they walk or drive, they mostly look forward and this reduces their situational awareness. If you are armed but taken by surprise, the assailant can grab your weapon and use it against you, so firearms may not really improve the situation.

There is no good solution to this other than not seeking to settle in the US long-term. I strongly suspect that the media coverage of the attacks are being amplified for political reasons, and it is possible that on some level blacks are being encouraged/manipulated to attack East Asians by white and Asian progressives for political reasons. At any rate, the progressives are completely denying that it has anything to do with black people and instead are blaming Covid and Trump even though the violence long predates either. If your own children are against you, what can you do?
