my 2 cents, is that the wolf warrior diplomacy was shocking, but no big deal

The Chinese wolf warrior diplomacy came out of nowhere and was blasting the western countries maybe six months ago. Then it kind of went silent after that, except for Canada mostly. The outbursts keep coming.

My impression is the continuing wolf warrior diplomacy by China against Canada, serves no purpose other than expression of anger, and does not influence anything either positively or negatively. In Canada at least.

After they arrested Meng Wanzhou, just a month or a couple of months later, there was another protest against a pipeline, which you always see in Canada, when the aboriginals opposed such develop through their ancestral lands. These protests always are happening. Except this time, there was a court order prohibiting the protestors from blocking the pipeline.

However, because of Black Lives Matter, the Prime Minister Trudeau did not want the police to enforce the court order, and everyone went home, the pipeline remained not built. But, this is the same Prime Minister, who tells China that Canada is a nation of laws and you must follow our traditions of rule of law. Which, after this pipeline episode, appeared to be all horsesh!t.

(Keep in mind that the legislation in Canada regarding extradition requests is that the Attorney General can step in at any time and dismiss the whole case. Also there is a requirement that extradition requests are not politicized which seems the case here, with Trump's statements of using this extradition case to extract a better deal with China.)

Then just a few months ago, a fairly serious scandal broke out, where members of the Prime Minister's family, such as wife and mother, were receiving large sums of money for speaking appointments. What happened next, was that the whole incident was swept under the rug. It seems like this was a case of corruption, but the other political parties in Canada are no good, so no one really cares as even though the PM seems unprincipled and corrupt, he still seems like the best choice for the country. Yet, even all through this incident, the Canadian message to China was that Canada must uphold the law.

So wolf warrior diplomacy had not bearing on Meng Wanzhou, or the 2 Canadians detained in China, or the 3 Canadians on death row in China. The Canadian population as far as I can tell, do not care about them either, if the government can stick it to China, then the Canadian voting public will feel good and vote Liberal.

Now what is interesting recently, this wolf warrior has no bearing on the trading relationship either, which is going to all time highs, not something that was expected. This was quite surprising since China had already banned Canadian canola and a couple of other products, cannot remember. Yet, trade goes up between China and Canada, despite the bans and diplomatic problems.

At this point, China wolf warrior diplomacy seems ineffective in accomplishing anything good or bad in Canada. The war of words does sell newspapers.
