since the bulbous bow is rather narrow on Shandong and doesn't appear to contain a sonar. However, Kuznetsov had a sonar in its bulbous bow, and Liaoning probably did. That bring up the question about how such a sonar, on a presumably noisy steam-powwered ship, would be able to detect something behind it, where not only the ship itself but the wake would interfere.
