If you read your own post  above, you asked and I quote "Therefore, there is no logical way to see how the Chinese will desire to have a trade deal on any American terms. There is no leverage left for Trump." I agree there is no way the Chinese would accept a deal on American's terms (maybe partially but never entirely on American's terms).

I suspect the Chinese negotiators correctly guessed Trump's desperation and stiffened their resolves...offered Trump little more than the original deal but they would probably be smart enough to give Trump some sweeteners and face-saving measures so he can claim a great victory. But he was outclassed by the Chinese negotiators.

Of course, this is only a baby step. I would expect more flares and dramas to come.
