Americans in general, not just the elite, tend to see the world in black-and white since the US is culturally grounded in evangelical Christianity. Korean reunification or even peace does not benefit the United States at all (US presence in South Korea is not directed against the North but against China) and I expect the pceace process to be sabotaged sooner or later.
