but not likely comprehensive written chinese. BTW, much of the gov scripts were still in english.

I heard even now in HK, one still has the option to speak english in court.

F**k,if I got tangled in legal matters and I must defend myself in court, I might insist on speaking english ,betting on the interpreter doing a poor job to confuse the other side. I doubt it's more difficult than delivering a church sermon.

(Its well known its more difficult for N.Chinese to learn Cantonese than Hkers to learn Putonghua. )
