When I was in calgary, alberta, I once tutored(for free)a mature female student,in her late 20s. She majored in english but she didn't have grade 12 math and U. of Calgary demanded she must do the course before she could graduate. I was amazed that the curriculum included binomial theorem and compound angle formulae in trigonometry. I would say pretty high standard for an english major
