when it first popped up in china like around 500-1000 AD, particularly back in those days when communication was difficult. Nothing comparable to the 1842 scenario.
Even in a much more info rich situation like when HIV first appeared in US, most hetero women were not aware what it was. Otherwise how come there was a big campaign on AIDS AWARRENESS?
