Seems to me, according to the news, the motivation for the American companies to import Indian IT workers, based on two things, the obvious being price and shortage.

There seems to be a shortage of qualified programmers in the USA, such as experienced coders like people who know what they are doing. Those really good are hard to find. Those not as good, they are really not that good. Therefore, seems to me, it makes business sense to find not so good programmers from India because if they are not so good, they a place like Google does not have to pay much. Basically take a chance.

There were some political stories about this, how resentful the white coders at Google were at their imported Indian counterparts because if you have 1 or 2 that were good, the rest were clueless and talked a lot.

In Canada, it is different because things just move slower. If someone is importing or in most cases outsourcing, it has all to do with cost savings.

One recent example in the news, a back the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, now known as Commerce Bank, aka CIBC, they laid off a number of programmers or IT people, but retained a few to train the Indians who came over to learn.

After the Indians learned the job, they will go back to Indian, and work for the bank there, the classic off shoring cost cutting move.

The remaining Canadian employees who trained the Indians, after that will be laid off too.

Naturally people complain about this kind of off shoring, and they went to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp, the CBC to complain, anonymously of course.

Then the usual political BS starts. But it is the hockey playoffs now, so everyone has forgotten about that too.
