Most yindus (esp. the BR type) have such thick mental blocks in place that they treat any and all failures as success. Indeed with enough mental somersaults, this inverse of reality becomes fact.  This is after a long list of embarrassing and undeniable failures in every aspect of their defence industry (the LCA, Arjunk, Kaveri, to name some obvious ones). Even with this obvious and tangible evidence of their incompetence, they still fervently believe that their *next* project - always around the corner, never to actually come to fruition - will somehow be generations ahead of Chinese counterparts, despite all evidence to the contrary. This is from a race of people that can't even produce simple artillery shells. IMO, their self-absorption and willfull ignorance precludes any meaningful self-perception, at least in the reality that you and I inhabit. They're a lot like religious fundamentalists in that regard.
