I read the hindu gov turned down their airforce proposal to get more mirage 2k back in 2005 ,likely bcos of difficulty of maintaining their mig23/27 and and emergence of chinese J10, from there they started a selection process of getting some mid-size fighters, The whole thing isnt over yet. The more they dragged on,the more advanced and expensive are the options and more advances made by china and more they panicked.

Hindu aerospace is not just tech shallow,the whole thing is a mess&has no strategy.If they're going to get some rafales,means they'll operate 3 types of mid-size engines of about the same vintage&thrust class:russian RD-33/93,yank F404/414 and french M88.May be they call it strength in diversity,wat the hell.
