Okay, I guess we should all remember the basic facts on the ground.

The China trade surplus is about a trillion USD for the previous year 2024.

So ... how important is this US China new trade war?

This is how I think I would answer that.

The bigger that number is, the more important it is.

The Chinese trade surplus, is unprecedented, only after World War 1 and World War 2 we saw instances of some nation exporting like bananas to other countries who were fighting a war.

Also, the previous trade war, Trump levied 25% tariffs against China, and we saw what happened, with the Chinese trade surplus. How much is the new tariff now? It is another 10%. Well, look, if the Chinese managed to get a 1 trillion USD trade surplus after being hit the first time by a 25% tariff from Trump, this time it is a big yawn. Yawn.

There is great irony in this too.

Perhaps, we make the assumption, that some elements in America want to hurt Chinese trade.

This Chinese trade surplus of 1 Trillion US Dollars, is here to stay for a while.

We know, we heard what Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang said at Davos recently, that China does not want to have such a big trade surplus.

The problem here, is that that will not be going down anytime soon. Simply put, people and companies around the world cannot get enough Chinese products, so they keep buying those Made In China goods.

Furthermore, with the United States waging economic war, against almost everyone who will be hit with a tariff from President Trump, well, who is some country going to turn to in such situation?

Trade always stimulates the economy. Actions slow down trade such as tariffs does the opposite.

Hence, this 1 Trillion US Dollar Chinese trade surplus is going to stay around for a while.
