1. Will try to say the obvious, that is some circles in the United States, they view TikTok as a infiltration attempt. In their minds it would appear, that if they ban TikTok, they would put a stop to this infiltration attempt.That is not how it works. Once the infiltration starts, and nothing is done, then it just continues. Now everyone knows TikTok is a Chinese app, and since it could be banned soon, Americans are wondering if there are other Chinese apps? Guess one component of infiltration is to change hearts and minds.
The funny part, is the US authorities. They never saw it coming. They do not understand how infiltration works. They cannot believe this, and are beside themselves. That is really bizarre, and kind of funny.
2. The Americans flocking to xiaohongshu, a lot will stay. After all, the Chinese can be gracious host, and this is not really a political platform, pushing some agenda. This is just social media like how it was before, people connecting and communicating over the internet. Even though this is foreign country the Americans are flocking to on the internet, just that getting away from the wokeness and the MAGA people, that is refreshing.
3. Will these TikTok refugees stay on xiaohongshu? I guess a lot will. Not sure about numbers and whatnot, but consider one point. This Chinese app has gone global. That means there will be more local stories. Such as the Israel and Hamas conflict, a lot of TikTok videos were available. So we should expect xiaohongshu be more Americanized for their American users, maybe tone down the politics.
4. The people who look so bad now are the US establishment. There is no way hiding this tech/cultural/soft power debacle. They wanted to suppress Chinese social media, but the opposite is happening. Chinese social media never had been this popular as ever, going global. All with the stern had of the Biden Administration behind it.
