There are things we can say out loud, and there are things that we can't. Whether it is true or not, even more so when it is not. Imagine saying this publicly to Russia, we prefer you to fight to till you turn into dust because it benefit us. Will Russians still consider China as an ally? I doubt so.
More importantly, the Russians are not fighting the west, the Russians are fighting Ukrainians. Both Russia and Ukraine have good relationship with China. We don't want to see them fighting each other. The US is the only winner in this war. Despite the US throwing tens of billions into this war, the US gained much more than it spent. EU practically turned into US vassal. EU depend on the US for energy and weapons. EU also lost its strategic independence in relation with China because of its dependency on the US. The US dictated how the EU can have relationship with China, and we already saw what happened to Huawei in Europe. Both UK and Germany used to ignore US objection to UK and Germany purchasing 5G from Huawei. Today, UK cut off ties with Huawei, and Germany is in the process of doing the same thing. The longer this war going, the worse it is for every one, including China, except for the US.
If this war end sooner, and peace can return, EU and China can get back to focus on business. Ukraine will need massive reconstruction investment, and China can help with that.
