The sad thing is that, indonesian politicians realize that islamic radicals are powerful forces that they can cultivate to gain power. The defeat of Ahok, Indonesian Chinese in the Jakarta governor election, at the hand of islamist supported candidate, showed them that they are force to be reckon in politics. For now at least, the indonesian politicians still carefully approach this dark sith like forces because they are also afraid of antagonizing the moderate islamist, traditionalists and other minorities. But like I said, they are growing stronger every day. I suspected it is only a matter of time before the conservative islamist take over, unless external power intervene. In the past, the US would have probably intervened. Sadly, the China-US competition will probably make it harder, since even the US would probably use this radical extremists to fight China growing influence and businesses in Indonesia. The islamist are not exactly a fan of China.
