India is dreaming if it think it can replicate Asian tiger export oriented economic model to rise like China. The world has changed significantly, free trade is being attacked from all corner of the world. Protectionism is the game in town. India consumption based economy can still help India grow, but it will never be as fast China's growth for the past 40 years. Moreover, we are in the cusp of the new industrial revolution with robotics and AI etc, this will be a game changing with unpredictable outcome. Will India with its huge and growing population reap the demographic dividend or will it turn into nightmarish liability is still a big question.
In geopolitcs side, the US is using India to poke at China, but how far will the US support India? Even now we are seeing the US is establishing a new alliance with Japan and Phillipine. It is kinda strange seeing the US establishing so many alliances with overlapping membership and with some members in one but not other alliances. Can we trust this kind of alliances will be effective?
Joining America symbolic alliance can also push Russia away. Pushing Russia away is the most stupid mistake, India can make. If Russia and China join hand to contain India, with proximity, both can make life very hard for India. Not to mention there are Pakistan and Iran close by too.
