I have a driver working for me. I always wonder what he will do once the self driving cars become reality. I don't have the heart to talk about this topic with him. He and millions of other drivers rely on this job to feed their families. Saying that they can learn other skills and find other jobs is too oversimplified things. It is not like they can easily pick up new skills and transform themselves.
I myself in healthcare related retail business. I saw competition from e-commerce eating into my business. But at least due to the nature of my business which is healthcare related, and my consumers still need to see me, I could still survive so far. But many other retail businesses have seen their businesses destroyed by e-commerce. These people have been doing their businesses for generations. I also have an acquintance whose family had been selling typewriter for three generations, since his grandpa started it. The business ended in my acquintance generation. They closed the business and turned into distributor of wallets.
