I don't remember what article it was, but in the article, it mentioned that although SMIC might not be able to produce chips as efficient as TSMC, and even though its cost is greater, it is worthed for SMIC to produce the chips, because the chips are needed in Chinese industry. Before, I always see it from the chipmaker perspective, and I worry that SMIC might not be able to compete with TSMC, and that SMIC will waste a lot of money and resources using older equipment to produce chips. But if you look at from the chips users perspective, ie Chinese companies, it is worthed to do that. Hopefully, they will make breakthrough soon. I'm glad Huawei is deeply embedded in this endeavor.
