and most PLAN surface combatants aren't that good ASW platforms, even if they have towed sonar. Most PLAN destroyers only carry a single helo, meaning that they can't have one helo deploy dipping sonar while the other drops torpedoes/depth charges on it. That imposes limitations on hunting enemy subs at longer distances from the ship (and at closer distances, the ship itself is put at risk if it has to come into torpedo range). It's something that can be done by Y-8 or other fixed-wing aircraft, but they would need to coordinate closely with surface ships and anyways there are not that many of them and they are not as fast as the USN's P-8.
