The creation of NATO itself is a serious threat to Russia's extential survival.  That was why Yeltsin created his successor Putin to counter the West.  Yeltsin seemed to be a drunk idiot, but he was not. That was the false impression he gave into fooling the West into thinking Russia is weak. Russia virtually don't need anything from outside. It has more resources than all the West combined.  They have industry capacity probably higher than the West and they have a good foundation of science and technology. They might be seened as less advance than the West. But they can sufficiently produce whatever they need. Given time, they will catch up as they invest more money in R&D. 

 

If China got contained, Russia understands they will be the next on the chopping block.  It is the wish of Russia to see China as a strong power, but not overly strong to challenge their influence.  Unless NATO is somehow got disintergrated and Europe somehow is under their influence. Russia might has a chance to unite with US to contain China.  But that is impossible, because that would become a nightmare to US. That will become a threaten to US's existential survival, becasue Europe industry and tech mights plus Russia industry and resource is virutally unstoppable. In this case, US will have no choice but to united with China agaist Russia and Europe.

 

Either way, China don't really care.  I think China now potentially have developed the technology and industries to sustain itself  without the need from outside. Even more so in the future as China progress forward and invest lots of money into this area.
