I personally think the Shandong has very limited modifications from the Liaoning. If you look at the Shandong's sponsons they didn't even bother deleting the raised platforms for the SA-9 Kinzhal/Tor rotary VLS launchers and left them as is minus the launchers. They didn't even bother modifying the forward starboard sponson with stepped platforms to give the HHQ-10s a greater field of fire over the 1130s like they did on the 003. The island shrinkage modification gave them maybe a single extra parking spot for a J-15, maybe not even that.
