didn't catch up with China until last few centuries during which the government in China had misguided policy stopping China from progressing forward, which led to its chaos and economical collapse. One of the bad policy Qing Dynasty had was conformity and punishment and discouragement for any innovations. US and Americas were the creation of the West and China indirectly when the West actively seeking trade routes to reach China desperately.

China now simply is going back to its historically norm after a brief abberration.  I don't think China will need any technology from the West in the future. China now has what it needs to drive forward.  The entrepreneurship and the government policy to encourage innovations.
