Even here in Indonesia, there are people who still think it is wasteful to build HSR.  They all claimed that HSR is a losing money project, that government won't be able to recoup the invested money. They are all learning their economy from the US. Public infrastructure benefit the public, that one won't appear in the financial statement of the company for sure. That's why government is the one who has to shoulder this responsibility.
