because they ruled that Trump was banned from office for insurrection according to the 14th amendment of the US constitution. For the uninitiated, this insurrection clause was enacted after the civil war to prevent ex-Confederate rebels from holding political office. The January 6 incident was hardly anything like the US Civil War, and I believe the reason why the media and the progressives constantly referred to January 6 as an "insurrection" almost from the very beginning was in order to use the 14th amendment to prevent Trump from running in 2024. This will obviously not sit well with Trump supporters. Who knows what will happen.
