Simply put, after all this trade war and tech war, and sanctions, barring of companies, mostly by the Americans and the Chinese applied a few retaliatory measures of their own. Seems ridicules why China would host the Americans for talks about trade.

Then again, this probably is a very good move for the Chinese, looking at the flip side of the same coin.

It is no secret that the Americans would like to have others gang up on China and they can take on China together. Whether that can actually work, is debatable.

Now with the Americans coming to China, in order to make some deals, the other members of this would be gang, must be wondering what is going on?

The Americans could be speaking on their behalf. The Americans could be thinking they should take one for the team. We don't know.

Furthermore, with the trade war and tech war, do not believe that China has much concern about that. Things appear to be proceeding at a good pace in regards to domestic chip development, and Huawei still being Huawei.

That was one reason the Europeans did not like Trump, because it appeared he wanted to make his own deals with China, and it was none of anybody's business, and if someone should get cut off, then so what?
