One theory floated is that the J-20 (without A) is the version with AL-31F/WS-10C. Assuming the twin seater is J-20S, then J-20A actually referred to the full status J-20 intended to equip with WS-15, ie. the 2051 prototype we seen last Dec. However, last Dec was the first flight of J-20A without twin WS-15, meaning it flew either with two WS-10C or one WS-10C plus one WS-15. Today as in Jun 29, the J-20A then fly with two WS-15.
