Very successfully, by using the war in Ukraine, the US has pocketed Europe. Politically, I can't see a Europe that can exhibit independence for a long time to come. So, I think China is right to count it out.

Economically, Europe probably needs China more than the reverse-- as stated by Mearsheimer. Militarily, I can't see a Europe that can project much power in Western Pacific.
