Especially the ones who are "fresh off the boat" who are from a monotonous demography.  People who are used to speaking one language and being around people who are like them. Unless they are highly soughted after, like top scientisits and engineers.

Chinese from multicultural societies like Chinese Malaysians, Singaporeans, both not only speaks English but also multilingual and multicultural thrive in the West right "off the boat".

The Western economy is unfair and only the ones that fit, can assimilate, bring value and highly intelligent will be able to break the economic ceiling.  A ceiling that most Whites couldn't even break let alone some HongKongers who can barely speak coherent English , "master degree" or not.

Those 1997 Hong Kong escapees with money came to North America and most of them after 25 years still kept to themselves insulated by their money.  They created their own enclaves with their money and never was able to assimilate into the mainstream culture. I call them "perpetual tourists".  Hated by the locals. Many did went back after getting their citizenships. Many came back 2019 during the HK protests.  Fair weather dogs.
