who is going to pay for the overbudget of 2 billion dollars. China should be more careful of taking this kind of project since land acquisition is always a problem in "democratic" country. There was even an incident where Chinese workers wearing military looked jumpsuit, common in China, were arrested by the Indonesian military who accused them of trespassing the land owned by military, the indonesian media even accused them of spies. Apparently the indonesian military is not thrill that the project is going to take away some land controlled by the military.

Many indonesians also argued that Indonesia don't need highspeed rail when the country still lack of railway in many places, and especially since the highspeed rail is for such a short route connecting jakarta and nearby bandung. But I think when they decided to do this, the Indonesian gov wanted it as a starting step before building more highspeed rail covering the whole java island. But with pandemic and looming recession, I'm not sure that is going to happen anytime soon.
