Raising tension with the US, actions including Pelosi's visits, tariff, sanctions, open support of TI, threatening Russian style sanction etc definitely helped his cause, helped people to see true face of Mr Hyde, naive faction can no longer sell their delusional distortion of reality. BTW Xi has the support of Jiang and Hu, particularly Hu, if he ever has any hesitation, Mr Hyde's true face must have convinced him.
