By opening up India, India will be better off for sure.  All open economy always do better but to say that India can compete after opening up is a stretch.

Even in Southeast Asia, not counting Singapore, only Vietnam is capable of developing to near China level. Especially on low to mid tech.

By opening up, India's hope of progres will be like Indonesia.  Standard of living will be better for all but, like Indonesia only at the periphery.
