I really have mixed feeling about zero covid policy. Looking at the rest of the world, covid is still raging on, but deaths have been declining, and most people have acted like covid is just a flu. My own family have caught covid once or twice and recovered, though I lost an aunt in the early pandemic before there was vaccine. I'm not sure if zero covid policy that lock down the whole city is still a reasonable policy since I don't know the challenge the Chinese gov face. I just thought that omicron is not as deadly as previous variants, and maybe it is time to relax the policy, maybe not lock down the whole city, but just district or even just building. What I think China really need to strictly mandate is the wearing the masks policy. I think that is one policy that we still need.

For property market, it is terrible, but I do think the crack down is needed to prevent even bigger disaster down the road. For years, the gov failed to curb the property speculation, but this bitter cost will probably serve as reminder to average Chinese citizens not to gamble on property speculation. I think this time they all learned the lesson.

Brick and mortar retaliers need to evolve if they want to survive. They should focus on better service and shopping experience if they want to compete with online retailers like what Alibaba Hema supermarket is doing. Gov can help by cutting taxes to businesses that remodelling their businesses.
